My health teacher assigned a family history project and she said we could go back as far as we want… She does not know what she has gotten her self into. We can present our family in what ever way we want so I’m torn between using Prezi and a normal Slide show. I am also torn on which line I should show, I know more about my grandfathers line but My grandmothers line has more interesting stories. Decisions decisions. However no matter what I choose It gives my an excuse to crack out this beauty and finally get some research done with all my home work I haven’t been able to recently. I really excited!!!
Today was the last day of conference! It was sad to see everyone go but I had an amazing time, all the classes were amazing! I learned so much not only about my great grandfather but about genealogy in general. Conferences offer so much for all different types of genealogists! So if your thinking about attending conference, here is my advice: GO! Go as soon as you can, conference is only of the most amazingly wonderful experiences ever!!!
Today was absolutely amazing. Thank to Lisa Louise Cook’s class on googles tools, I found some amazing research on my great grandfather. I found a website called together we served which led to his own personal website describing what he did, his ranks, and how he got his medals and ribbons in the Army. I really recommend getting Lisa cooks New google toolbox book, I haven’t read it yet but if its anything like her class, its going to be so helpful.
We also participated in the global family reunion! We sang along to “We are Family” and threw beach balls around, and just had a lot of fun!
Today was the first day of conference and I had so much fun! My mom and I got there a bit early so I got to work on my computer for a bit.
Then I had a class on Emergency preparedness and keeping your genealogy safe here is a very important rule I learned from Denise Levenick; you should have 3 copies of everything, on at least 2 different media, and 1 in a off site location. You can remember it with just 3..2..1
I also went to a extremely helpful class on how to find information through geography, I also got to spend a lot of time with my mom, which is good, we spend so much time looking in to history we sometime forget were also making history.
Ok so I made a time line on prezi, of my third great grandfather Amos Henry Byrum so here it is.
This is my first time using prezi for my genealogy I also made one for his son and I will post it soon. Sorry its been so long since I’ve posted, but I am at the genealogy conference in Burbank so you can expect more post soon.
Today was the last day of the conference, so it ended early but we still learned a lot. I went to two classes the first was on Writing your Family history and the second was showing your family history through Prezi. If you haven’t heard of Prezi before, its amazing site that is used for presentations but is also helpful in explaingin your genealogy to others. http://prezi.com/ Anyway I had about an hour between my classes so my mom and I went to the exhibit hall and ran into a friend.
and our friend Maria and this was her first genealogy conference! I hope she had fun and decides to come back next year!
Today was so much fun my first class of the day was on State Archives, at first I thought it would be kinds boring but I went there and I turned out to be very interesting I had no idea that every state had an archive or that they digitized some of their documents. I also went to the bloggers summit they have here every year. I was really cool to get advice from other, more well known bloggers. Plus afterwards all the blogger got together and took a picture. While I am not in the picture I had the honor of take it with my mom’s cell phone.
Later in the day my mom and I attended Cyndi Ingle’s class called The Internet A Genealogist’s Printing Press. It was very informative about the different ways to publish your work on the internet. My mom and I got there early so we could get good seat, so while we were waiting we took some pictures.
